4GB Nano shows up in Europe

September 18th, 2008

Strangely, there have been two separate accounts of a 4GB version of the new and improved nano showing up on store shelves in the Netherlands. Strange because there was no announcement and no mention of a 4GB nano at Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event, so this image is a bit of a surprise. The sources are claiming that this nano comes in all 9 colors and is priced at $169. They appear to be the real deal and some are saying Limited Edition, while others are thinking Apple messed up.

New MacBook Pros Leaked on German Site?

September 18th, 2008

Sure, none of it makes any sense, but we can’t shake the feeling that there’s something a little weird going on here. We’ve received a number of tips that T-Systems — a division of the same company that owns T-Mobile — has got pics of some variation of a MacBook Pro that we’ve certainly never seen before. The appearance of a new model would fall right in line with those rumors we’ve been hearing, but this seems a little too easy. In fact, the specs of these devices appear unchanged from the current lineup of laptops. The likely explanation is that there’s been a photo mix-up — someone got their proper MBP pictures crossed with one of those “wishful thinking” renders. Then again, given Apple’s recent propensity for leaked photos… maybe there’s something more to this.

T-Mobile Android phone to hit stores on Oct 17, Sprint Android phone coming next year

September 18th, 2008

Android, Google’s new operating system for devices, will be officially unveiled as part of the HTC “Dream” phone launch on T-Mobile on September 23rd, at a press conference in New York. The phone, to be officially called the “G1″ will ship on October 13th and arrive in stores on October 17, sources tell us. This is a few days earlier than previous reports suggested, but otherwise fits with what we’ve been hearing.

The reason: Android’s software is like a nicely baked cake plus a container of frosting. It’s a full stack of software components for an operating system (the cake itself) that includes customizable interfaces and features such as an “app store” (the frosting). Carriers, in the Android team’s view, just need to take Android and put the frosting on the cake the way they like, so to speak. Read the rest of this entry »
